About Us!
We welcome you in on our dream..our farm!
I encourage you to watch all of Lubbe Cillers videos on youtube. Here is part 1 for you to watch about the Savanna's.
Hi Ya'll!
Double Medic Savanna's is our dream unfolding. We moved to our farm in 2014 and began to make our dream happen in the physical. We lived in Oklahoma City for about 15 years and worked in EMS for roughly 10 years before we made this leap of faith. We had our life challenges, heartbreaks, happiness, and joy just like most people. We started to realize as we were getting older that our jobs really had no retirement or pension and we didn't have a backup plan. Most people in EMS "retire" because of a injury. So trying to plan ahead we started doing research into a way to make a living doing something that we could do even when we were old and decrepit haha. So for several years we dug deep into researching how to farm, what to farm, costs, feeds, livestock, food, ect. Well we discovered a breed of goats that blew us away and offered a glimpse of hope into our dream. This breed stood out above all others in comparison. We analized and researched this breed with all the info we could find and the SAVANNA'S won us over. So we took our leap of faith and moved 3 hours from our jobs, comforts, friends and security. We bought our first fullblood Savanna Buck and brought him to our farm with no house and just a barn. Not long later we moved and then drove to Kentucky to buy our first Fullblood Does from Gold City Savanna's and then to Missouri to buy does from Double B goat farm. We made life long friends and had our dream in a trailer behind us!
Almost two years later we are more excited now than ever! This breed has shown us the very reason they are the cream of the crop. There mothering ability is truely an amazing thing to watch and experience. We have heard the horror stories of bad mothers and have experienced this as well with some of our nubians. To watch a first time doe give birth and the instinct they have to take care of their kids is remarkable! This breeds ability to deal with southern Oklahoma heat compared to other breeds is quite impressive. Obviously they are able to deal with the heat since they did originate from South Africa. We have never raised any other breed other than Savannas except for our few nubian does. So our experience with parasite overloads and problems that other breeds tend to have I can say we have never had that problem. We have had to treat our goats for parasites very very few times in the past two years compared to our nubians of which we have obviously had to treat many more times than our Savannas. The way the Savanna kids grow is quite astonishing as well. Our very first kid born was 60lbs before she was weaned and was not on any feed! This is obviously a trait that is desired when you raise meat goats and especially if you are raising for meat market. The list can go on and on why we love this breed. We are inlove with this breed and hope I gave you alittle glimpse into what they are all about!
Thank you for taking the time to look at our farm and read about us!
